Mission & Vision
Our Mission
The Mission of First United Methodist Church of McAlester is the same as that of the greater United Methodist Church: "To Make Disciples of Jesus Christ."
Our Mission Statement comes from Matthew 28:18-20 - "Then Jesus came to [the Disciples] and said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.'"
We strive to accomplish our mission through worship, study, service, and outreach.
We believe that all Christians, regardless of how long they have been believers, still have room to grow in their faith to be better disciples of Jesus Christ.
Our Vision
The Vision of First United Methodist Church of McAlester is "To Be the Vital Heart of Jesus Christ in Our Community."
First UMC-Grand Avenue, located in the heart of Downtown McAlester, is the site of many community events, including the Community Thanksgiving Service each October and the Community Martin Luther King Day Service each January, concerts, craft fairs, lectures, the Community Bible Study (CBS), and other events.
First UMC-Wesley, located across from the Mike Deek Ball Fields, will play host to several new ministries and events in 2009.
As we look to the future, we want to keep our community in mind as we plan events, ministries, and facilitiy changes/upgrades. First UMC McAlester sees itself as a part of the community and not set apart and pledges to continue to do so in the future.
First UMC McAlester seeks to be a part of the growth and revitalization of McAlester and the community we serve.
